A large portion of the Lebanese population has difficulty accessing mental health services due to financial, geographic, and cultural reasons. There is a lack of AI and telehealth based platforms in Lebanon, and in a lot of cases, platforms developed in the west are being used in the region (which does not take into account the cultural diversity of the different countries). Dr. Mourani is developing Artificial Intelligence based platforms to deliver mental health care services in Lebanon and beyond trying to reach all segments of the Lebanese population.

Episode 46: Achieving Healthcare Equity in the LGBTQ Community in Lebanon with Dr. Omar Fattal

Episode 44: An Open Access Journal with no Publication Fees: Is this for real? with Dr. Gregory Nicholas

Please listen and watch episode 44 of The Lebanese Physicians Podcast with Dr. Gregory Nicholas. Dr. Nicholas is a graduate of the Lebanese American University School of Medicine and currently a plastic surgery resident in Brazil. Through his medical training, he noticed that medical students, residents, and physicians in underpriviliged communities are at a disadvantage when it comes to their ability to publish in peer-reviewed journal. This is due to the cost of publication and to the lack of training and expertise in writing good quality publications. He therefore developed the "International Journal of Clinical Research" whose goal is to connect global communities of medical students, trainees, junior faculty, and established faculty and to publish open access papers with zero publication fee. We discuss how this is working out and how the editorial board and journal supporters are connecting students across the globe to well established researchers to help them publish and promote their research. In this era of rising publication fees, Dr. Nicholas and the team at IJCR are working on reversing the tide and allowing all physicians, medical students, and residents the ability to publish and promote their research.

Episode 43: Addressing the Psychological Impact of the Beirut Port Explosion on Children and Adolescents

Tune in to our newest episode of The Lebanese Physicians' Podcast where we discuss the results of the recently published study "Anxiety, depression and PTSD in children and adolescents following the Beirut port explosion" with Drs. Fadi Maalouf and Lilian Ghandour. In this episode we discuss the psychological impact of the explosion on children and adolescents in Lebanon following the explosion. We discuss the questionnaires used, the areas in Lebanon that were polled, and the significance of the results obtained given the high rates of anxiety, depression, and PTSD in those children after the explosion. We end it with potential lessons learned and public policy recommendations regarding similar traumatic events in the future.

Episode 42: The GNK Foundation: Advancing the Treatment of Blood Disorders in Lebanon with Dr. Adlette Inati
